13 years as a Distinguished Fellow within the Energy & Environment group at LMI, a not-for-profit government consulting company.

25 years at the American Petroleum Institute, rising to become Vice President and Chief Economist over the last 18 years.

Any particular achievement/interest in energy/environment you would like to mention?

I would mention here: a report to the Congressional Research Service of the U.S. Library of Congress on "Promoting Changes in Relative Fossil Fuel Prices to Achieve Strategic Energy Goals."; a series of 3 reports to the George C. Marshall Institute involving policy mechanisms to deal with climate change; chapters in two books published by LMI on climate change; and author contribution to 2008 Defense Science Board report on the Department of Defense energy strategy.

In your opinion, what are important issues facing the energy industry nowadays?

The two most important issues in my opinion are:

Finding means to reconcile the growth of the industry with a sustainable environment. This involves not only technology and engineering but also establishment of social institutions that guide energy investment properly.

Persuading the public to support the use of markets to guide energy investments rather than various government subsidy or regulatory schemes.

How long have you been a member of NCAC? Any particular NCAC memory you would like to share with us?

I've been a member of NCAC either from the inception of the chapter or very shortly thereafter. Basically, I was around at the founding and got involved very early on. The NCAC field trip to Oil City, PA of a few years ago was an outstanding event. Many interesting talks, and good professional comradeship with people who know a great deal about energy markets.
